Behind the Buzzword: The Gig Economy

Behind the Buzzword: The Gig Economy

by Leah Hoffmann @ Business Talent Group

The gig economy has disrupted everything from food delivery to vacation rentals. It’s also poised to change the way big companies get work done.

Where’s this headed?

What is the gig economy?

The gig economy refers to a way of working that goes beyond traditional full-time employment. In short, it’s a migration from full-time roles to short-term project-based work, or “gigs,” and it’s happening at every level of employment. The gig economy encompasses everything from journalists who prefer …

How to Leverage Social Media for SEO: Link Building

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Exploring the myriad of ways social networks can be utilized in your link-building efforts.

I recently asked a room of experienced marketers how they thought social media marketing could assist their SEO efforts. The answers were more or less what I had expected to hear:

Social media helps foster relationships, which in turn helps build links and improves rankings. Social media aids in public relations, as a distribution channel and a means of generating easy online buzz. Social sharing provides a form of social proof, giving greater credibility and trustworthiness to your content. Brands can rank for their social networking profiles and receive greater visibility within the SERP.

While these are all true, let’s focus on how link building on social platforms can help unite a brand’s social media marketing and SEO efforts.

At the most basic level, social networking sites provide an easy way to share and distribute your message. If the content is seen by the … Continue reading

Facebook, Not Google, Is Now the Top Referral Source for Digital Publishers

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Over the last number of years one of the main areas of contention between the two has been driving referral traffic.

However, it’s not simply about top market share, it’s a contest between social referrals and search engine referrals.

Until recently Google has been the top traffic referrer online. But according to data from Parse.ly, which provides web analytics for digital publishers that include the likes of Mashable, Telegraph Media Group, and Business Insider, Facebook recently surpassed Google as the top referrer for major publishers.

Parse.ly CTO Andrew Montalenti told SocialTimes that there are several factors contributing to this shift.

Perhaps the biggest change took place about a year ago, when Facebook began taking a more active interest in developing relationships with publishers to curate and promote content, he said:

I believe the reason Facebook did this is because they realized that a lot of the interesting conversations happening around the web were happening around major … Continue reading

Energizing. Engaging. Winning. I'm at the Michigan Summit in East Lansing today, soaking up a healthy dose of progressive energy, to connect with other progressives and to listen to some amazing activists share their wisdom about our path ahead together. The organizational showcase is packed full of progressive organizations: The day opens with a plenary session with introductions by Amanda Stitt and Art Reyes from Michigan Voice, Elaine Mejia from Public Works: the Center for the Public Sector, and panelists AFL-CIO president Karla Swift, Rick Carter from Flint Area Congregations Together (FACT), and Anika Fassia from Public Works. Elaine Mejia talked about reframing how we talk about government and how we tell the story of Michigan. Their studies show that when you engage people by getting them to tell their own Michigan story and ask how government structure can be used to encourage people to work together to solve our shared problems, participants feel more engaged. Best Local SEO Company specializing in Search Engine Optimization, NAP Duplicate Suppression and Reputation Management for companies

Why your current SEO approach isn’t enough.

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Customers are more empowered than ever before.

Technology and connectivity have completely changed our lives, especially in terms of how and where we spend our money.

This has also led to a power-shift, where people have almost total control of what they see and experience online. This is in turn “causing havoc” for businesses and forcing them to evolve quickly.

It also doesn’t help that the online experience is full of noise; many sites are just a wall of ads, messages and assorted brand clutter. Users now have multimedia and multi-device habits and therefore have multiple means of escape.

All of this has led to search evolving into ‘discovery marketing’. In fact marketers are now shifting money away from paid search into content marketing and other means of being discovered organically.

Challenges

There are major challenges to organic search.

25% of US online adults find new websites and info through Facebook now.

Are Website Builders Actually Free?

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

The majority of website builder brands offer a free account which allows users access to the basic features and building tools. A handful of website builders provide a limited trial period to allow users to get comfortable with the service before paying for the subscription – these are generally the more complex and sophisticated website builders.

The free accounts generally provide users with a subdomain, for example yourname.wix.com, yourname.websitebuilder.com or yourname.squarespace.com users can then publish their site under this URL. If you publish your site on a free account you will notice that it has many advertising banners for the website builder brand that you chose, this doesn’t make your site look particularly appealing to your customers and visitors. Our advice is if you have never used a website builder before or it’s your first time designing a website use the free account to get used to the editor and the features it offers and then when you want … Continue reading

How Google Search Works in 2006

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Infographic shows how search works, from the perspective of a content creator, starting with their content & following it through the indexing & ranking process.

As users have shifted to mobile devices, the limited screen size of the devices have pushed search engines to squeeze out & displace publishers with their own self-hosted information in an effort to offset the poor usability offered by tiny devices, while ensuring the search habit does not decline.

The philosophy of modern search has thus moved away from starting with information and connecting it to an audience, to starting with the user and customizing the result page to them.

“The biggest three challenges for us still will be mobile, mobile, mobile”.

Pros and Cons of Premium Website Templates…

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Advantages of using Website Templates

What you see is what you get. With a readymade website template, you don’t have to imagine what the finished product will look like, whether the web developer you’ve chosen has understood your requirements, whether your website will have to go through several changes and iterations before you’re satisfied with the end-product. The website template can be customized to your requirements by changing the colors, pictures and text so that it ends up looking quite different from the original.

1. Speed. Time is money. Your website will be up-and-running within a fraction of the time it takes to develop a custom website – provided, of course, that you have the content and the pictures ready to customize your website template to suit you. A custom-designed website can take months to develop, depending on its complexity. Compare that time-frame to the few weeks or even a few days for a website template to become a … Continue reading

Michigan Window Washing by Crystal Clear Window Cleaning

Michigan Window Washing by Crystal Clear Window Cleaning

Crystal Clear Window Cleaning

Crystal Clear Window Cleaning is a residential and commercial window washing company located in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

We are hitting the midpoint of the 2017 college football season, and this is when things start to get interesting. Games become more important as teams jockey for position for a place in the College Football Playoff.

This past weekend we saw two top 10 teams lose. Both Oklahoma and Michigan lost at home to unranked opponents. Michigan lost to in-state rival Michigan State, while Oklahoma blew a 17-point lead in losing to Iowa State. What that tells me is that Oklahoma and Michigan were ranked too high to begin with and never really were top-10 teams.

Looking at the top 10 now, the team that I feel is out of whack as far as rankings go is Penn State. Penn State’s schedule to date has been very easy, but their next three games will tell us how good they really are. The Nittany Lions are off this week, then they'll play Michigan at home and travel to Ohio State and Michigan State in their next three games. If they lose any of those games, their chances of getting into the playoff will become slim.

Speaking of Penn State, they have one of the most publicized players in the country in running back Saquon Barkley. At this point of the season, Barkley is the odds-on favorite to win the Heisman trophy. Many draft analysts also feel he is a top three-to-top five pick in the next NFL Draft and are comparing him to the Dallas Cowboys' Zeke Elliott. I say not so fast.

Though Barkley is very good, he is not the runner that Elliott is. If we had to compare Barkley to a recent draft choice it would be Carolina’s Christian McCaffrey. Barkley is a great all-purpose back — just like McCaffrey — because he is a runner, a receiver and a return man.

Looking at his numbers, Barkley only has two games this season in which he has run for over 100 yards and two games in which he didn’t get even 60 yards rushing. That’s not top-five production.

A running back who is starting to get some hard looks from NFL scouts is Stanford junior Bryce Love. Love was a backup to McCaffrey the past few years, and so he didn’t get the notoriety of others going into the season. As the main guy this year, Love is averaging over 200 yards a game and 10.5 yards per carry through six games. You can check him out Saturday night against Oregon.

Google Panda Update: Everything We Know About Panda 4.2

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Too late for new changes…

Unfortunately, once Google begins rolling out one of these updates, it is too late to apply changes that will have any effect during the rolling out phase period. As we have seen previously, these updates have a cut-off date and any changes made after this date will be applied to the next refresh or update.

That said, it is always a good idea to be continually updating content. But if you have been previously impacted by Panda and did not make the changes to increase quality yet, you will need to wait for the next one.

Likewise, if you are now negatively impacted by the Panda algo this time around, you will need to wait for the next update or refresh.

Web Browsers Change Handling of Non-HTTPS Websites

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Web browsers have changed the way they handle non-HTTPS websites, and more changes are on the way. If you already have our Whole-Site SSL add-on, you’re covered. Otherwise, read on to see how these changes affect your website, and what to do about it.

Web browsers Chrome and Firefox, which account for more than 70% of web traffic, have started warning users to varying degrees when they visit non-HTTPS websites, and those warnings will become more prominent over time.

Below are examples of how these browsers display websites that have HTTPS and those that do not.

First, this is how your customers will see your site if you add Whole-Site SSL:

Next, this is how your customers will see your site today if you don’t have Whole-Site SSL:

That looks harmless, but if a visitor clicks the “i” for more info, they’ll see something like this:

Gene expression profiling of cancer stem cell in human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells

Gene expression profiling of cancer stem cell in human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells

Molecular Cancer

The studies on cancer-stem-cells (CSCs) have attracted so much attention in recent years as possible therapeutic implications. This study was carried out to investigate the gene expression profile of CSCs in human lung adenocarcinoma A549 cells. We isolated CSCs from A549 cell line of which side population (SP) phenotype revealed several stem cell properties. After staining the cell line with Hoechst 33342 dye, the SP and non-side population (non-SP) cells were sorted using flow cytometric analysis. The mRNA expression profiles were measured using an Affymetrix GeneChip® oligonucleotide array. Among the sixty one differentially expressed genes, the twelve genes inclusive three poor prognostic genes; Aldo-keto reductase family 1, member C1/C2 (AKR1C1/C2), Transmembrane 4 L six family member 1 nuclear receptor (TM4SF1), and Nuclear receptor subfamily 0, group B, member 1 (NR0B1) were significantly up-regulated in SP compared to non-SP cells. This is the first report indicating the differences of gene expression pattern between SP and non-SP cells in A549 cells. We suggest that the up-regulations of the genes AKR1C1/C2, TM4SF1 and NR0B1 in SP of human adenocarcinoma A549 cells could be a target of poor prognosis in anti-cancer therapy.

Google Begins Rolling Out Its Latest Algorithm Update – Google Panda 4.2

by Owner @ Google Maps Marketing – Expert Local SEO Company

Google’s Gary Illyes has confirmed that Google started rolling out Panda update version 4.2 last weekend, affecting 2–3% of queries.

Google algorithm updates always rouse a storm on the internet community as they directly affect website rankings. The latest such refresh is Google Panda 4.2, which began on 18th July, 2015. However, the rollout is extremely slow and that’s the reason people didn’t notice it. According to Google, it may take months till the time we are able to notice any significant impact on the website rankings. It might also not affect all the pages of a website in the short run. Google officials were tight-lipped about why the rollout is so slow.

This refresh is happening just after 10 months from the last update that was rolled out in September last year. As Google algorithm updates keep on happening periodically, it’s considered to be the 30th such update.

It was difficult even for the webmasters to notice … Continue reading
