It's Fall!!

by noreply@blogger.com (colbran) @ Burson's Delta Resort

It's a gorgeous Autumn day here.   The many colored leaves are blanketing the ground and the air is filled with smells and sounds of Fall.   We have 7  trumpeter "swans a swimming" on the lake and trying to establish seniority by flapping their wings and chasing each other.   What a racket....we love it!

Bow season has begun and what a glorious time to be out in the woods; small game season too, and we've seen some ruffed grouse.

Gun season for deer will begin in November.   We still have a couple openings for hunters.   We'll be open for the first week, November 15th through the 22nd, so let us hear from you if you need a comfortable place to stay!

SEO’s Can No Longer Rely On a Great Domain Name for Rankings

Collalba negra: friolera entre las rocas

by Salvador Solé @ GL SEO Barcelona

Happy New Year from the Burson's....We didn't have much snow for Christmas, but we are making up for it now. The snowflakes are swirling around outside this morning and it looks like we have about 6" so far. It is piled up on our deck posts here at Hemlock Hill, our log home. We have the woodstove casting a warm glow and we are snug as a bug. Time to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful area....may get our '77 Skidoo snowmobile out for a spin later. The trees are frosted and looking across the marsh it's a hazy view. Ted has been out to do his "chores", feed the birds and chop a hole in the ice for the muskrats and feeds them corn. We have only two turkeys coming, hoping for the 17 we had last year. We'll walk/jog soon.....I love to scuff my feet through the snow.
Hope you are all comfy where ever you are.

2015 Spring Greetings from Burson’s Delta Resort

Hello to all from the Bursons!  First let me apologize for the lateness of our Spring letter.  Usually I have it mailed by the middle of March or at least the first of April, not so this year.  Let me explain!

We had all the family here for Christmas.  It started out with 2-1/2 days without electricity due to a widespread snowstorm.  We managed with the gas cooking stove, the generator, the cold temperatures which kept the food safe, and the boys getting water from the lake by the dock to use to flush toilets.  Needless to say, EVERY ONE of the 11 here (plus Brandon’s girlfriend) were happy to see the Alger-Delta trucks repairing the lines.  We DID have fun….played games, visited (not by texting) and just enjoyed each other’s company and what the “olden days” were like.

In March we took our annual trip to Iowa to see Dana, Jim and the boys and also to work at the Walcott Lions fish fry.  We always get to see our old friends and students from when we lived there.  After a week in Iowa, we drove to Florida and stayed with friends on the Gulf side where they stay at Homosassa Springs.  They took us all around the area!  We took a pontoon ride to see the manatees, ate fresh shrimp, went to Tarpon Springs for a trip out into the Gulf for shell looking, and of course took in Greek food.  We also visited a high school friend of Ted’s in Ocala and our former minister and his wife from Walcott in Apopka.  The weather was great (a little warm at 91° one day) but they can keep the traffic there!  We left there and spent time in Savannah, Georgia and had a lovely time visiting the historic places, and then went to visit friends in South Carolina and North Carolina and on to Ted’s sisters in Indiana before returning to reality and SNOW in the UP.

We were home less than a week when I got mixed up with a throw rug in the garage, fell down on the cement, scraped my arm on the wood step and ran my bottom teeth through my bottom lip!  Had to go to the ER for stitches but I’m thankful it wasn’t any worse.  Before Easter, Ted developed sinus congestion after a couple of migraine headaches and had blurred vision in his right eye.  So, another trip to the ER, then the eye doctor, and finally up to Marquette for a brain MRI.  They found no reason for the eye trouble but pressure from his sinuses.  He still isn’t up to par and is trying to get his strength back.  If you know Ted, he’s the Energizer bunny and this is not easy.  The doctor says it’s a virus and it has to run its course….it’s not running fasting enough for Ted!

That brings us to the middle of April.  We are “thinking” about summer and have been getting reservations.  I’m not sure how we are going to do everything this summer, but we will sure try.  We will be starting our 53rdseason with the first 18 years here with Ted’s parents in the summer.  After they were gone, the last 35 years have been just us.  The girls and families help out when they can, but they are all busy with jobs, school and activities too.  We’ll be rounding up a couple of the grandsons to get things jump started at the end of May, so that will help!

We’re looking forward to seeing you if we’re in your plans.  If not, God’s blessings on you and your families!

Coqueta crestirrufa: escaso y espectacular colibrí

by Salvador Solé @ GL SEO Barcelona

2017 Spring Greetings from Burson's Delta Resort

by noreply@blogger.com (colbran) @ Burson's Delta Resort

We are anxiously awaiting the snow to melt in places, the roads to dry out, and warmer temps to arrive; then we can say spring has arrived!

It was quite a fall for us after we had a busy summer of 2016.  In September, we started making trips every three weeks to either Rochester or Maplewood, Minnesota, for Ted to receive chemo for a couple of small spots below his windpipe due to the prostate cancer.  We could stay with a good friend's son who lived there, so we would go the day before he would get his “poison” as he called it, and then drive home 8 hours the next day.  We had good weather and then the last scan in January showed no cancer…..GOD IS GOOD!!

Also in December, we saved a trumpeter swan from the icy lake and it didn’t fly away with the others.  After getting it up the hill from the lake (me pushing Ted), it spent the night in our downstairs bathtub.  It was so weak.  We finally found a vet at KI Sawyer who would look at it as she thought it had lead poisoning.  What a wonderful place!  They did x-rays and sure enough, he was full of lead.  They doctored him and just last week he was taken to Iowa to a rehab facility.  Mr. Hisser (as Ted called him) will be a foster father with the cygnets there, as he has heart trouble from the effects of the lead and would not survive back in the wild.  We wondered about his mate (as they mate for life typically), and sure enough, last week she returned (Ted could identify her) with a new mate.

Other than those two events, we enjoyed all the family again for Christmas here.  Brandon is working and snowmobiling when and wherever he can.  He and some friends were up to the UP several times this past winter.  Colby is a freshman at Iowa State and just finished Spring football and is working hard on his Agricultural Engineering degree.  Wyatt is a freshman at UW Stevens Point and loving the musical theater program.  He had one part in a play…he was a corpse.  Gotta start somewhere!  Hannah is a junior in high school and is doing great with her studies.  She played volleyball and basketball and got several UP honors.  Dalaney is in 4th grade and was the manager for Hannah’s basketball team.  She loves to read and she is growing up fast.  She has her own sketch book and does a lot in that.  Scotty is in 3rd grade and is still bowling and participating in karate.  They are busy families!

We will be starting our 55th summer at the resort.  We have so many fond memories.  Keep in touch if you don’t plan a trip our way.

by noreply@blogger.com (colbran) @ Burson's Delta Resort

It's a beautiful day in the U.P. today....sunny with just a few high clouds and about 61 degrees!  Bear season with dogs opens tomorrow.  The 8 deer that are coming to Ted's feeder are losing their spots and their coats are getting darker.  They must be getting hungry, as normally there aren't that many.  He also feeds ducks and there are about 30 coming in now for food.  Every time there's a north wind on a cold morning the Canadian geese are migrating overhead too.  I guess Fall is in the air!

What Is the Program?

by admin @ Delta Green

The expanded core rulebook for Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game is nearly complete. Developers Dennis Detwiller and Shane Ivey are finalizing the text now. Here’s a teaser from “The Schism,” a chapter by Adam Scott Glancy and Shane Ivey about the shape of modern-day Delta Green. The Program The Security Studies Group. Yellow Combine. Petrel Hill. Threshold Curve. Silver See. The official name has changed eighteen times since 2002. Every time it changes, the paper trail leading to its true activities becomes more muddled. With each change, a new, Top Secret special-access program grants continuing clearance to activities and intelligence that no American employee can confess or confirm. Insiders call it “the Program.” Its headquarters—and its carefully compartmentalized laboratories, hangars, and personnel scattered throughout the government and private sector—allow it the pretense of legitimacy. But the Program’s leaders long ago determined that its work is too important to be restricted by the Constitution. The Program, for all its access and influence, is as criminal an enterprise as all the conspiracies and blacker-than-black military projects that came before it. The Program’s people are warned never to let outsiders hear its true name: Delta Green. Officially, the Program (whatever its current name) is dedicated to the acquisition and study of foreign technology. The documents that authorize it say nothing about the unnatural, or about the explicit criminality at the Program’s heart. The Program’s true purpose is stated goes back to Delta Green’s founding in 1942: To gather intelligence on unnatural phenomena. To protect the citizens of the United States from threats originating with unnatural phenomena. To maintain the security of the United States against unnatural threats. Only the means and methods have changed. At least, that’s what the Program’s leaders tell themselves. Some agents might hold lingering doubts about how their superiors are executing that mission. They may especially wonder about one essential, never-answered question: “In the long run, are we only making the problem worse?” —Excerpted from Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game

Help Playtest Our Newest Scenario “Extremophilia”

by S_Cogswell @ Delta Green

Want to help us playtest our newest scenario and help us create a more terrifying and realistic game? Here are the guidelines: We will send the playtest manuscript on or around Thursday, July 6, 2017. PRODUCT: “Extremophilia,” a scenario by Shane Ivey. It will probably take one session to play. DEADLINE: Please send your report NO LATER THAN Monday, August 1, 2017. REPORT FORMAT: A single text document. Word, Pages, and Rich Text Format are fine. PLEASE DO NOT send it as a PDF. GROUND RULES AND GUIDELINES 1. The playtest manuscript is confidential and under copyright. Do not distribute it to anyone else by email, photocopy or upload. 2. Please refrain from commenting on it publicly. THE PLAYTEST MANUSCRIPT IS NOT A REVIEW COPY. It is an early draft and it may change substantially before it sees print. (Exception: Cursory public comments to the effect of “I’m playtesting this and it looks great!” are always fine. But if you’d rather say “…and it looks like crap!”, well, please tell me so privately so we have a chance to make it better before we release it.) 3. Please do NOT list typos, misspellings and grammatical foul-ups. This is an unedited early draft. We’ll take care of all that stuff later. A lot of the text is likely to change after playtesting so it’s no use pointing those things out now. And here is what we need: 1. Read these guidelines in detail. Follow them carefully when you receive the playtest manuscript. 2. Read the playtest manuscript first as a prospective GM and take notes as you go. What about it particularly sparks your interest and imagination? What about it leaves you confused or wishing you had more information? Which rules elements are clear and useful? Which rules elements are confusing, contradictory or unnecessary? 3. Please prepare all notes in a single, separate file. Please do NOT just add them to the manuscript or embed them as notes in the original document. Review REPORT FORMAT, above. 4. Next, sit down with your game group for one or two game sessions. Introduce them to the setting and to what kinds of characters they’ll play, and their pregenerated characters if any. Then play the game. 5. Play the scenario as written. Playtesting does us no good if you don’t playtest what we send you. 6. Take notes on the players’ comments as you go. Where are they interested, engaged, impressed? Where are they confused, bored, frustrated? What do they like? What do they dislike? Please add those notes to the single, separate playtest report file. 7. On the first page of your report, please provide the following information: • Your name as you want it to appear in the playtesting credits. • Your email address. • The names of your players as you want them to appear in the playtesting credits. If all of this sounds exciting to you, FOLLOW THIS LINK TO THE GOOGLE DOC and sign up! You’ll be hearing from Shane Ivey shortly thereafter.

We Can Place Your Business On The First Page Of Google?

by K.Whitinger @ Mid-Michigan Interactive | Web Design & Online Marketing For Your Business

What does that actually mean, “We Can Place Your Business On The First Page Of Google”?  As a business owner, we all have had many companies contact us in some shape or form trying to sell this service. It could have been an email, a Facebook message or a phone call.(Most likely automated). These companies are relentless and keep trying to get in touch with business owners to sell this service Do we as business owners understand what they are talking about?  In this post I will give a brief explanation of the 3 different areas of a Google Search Results, questions you should ask, why you should use a local company for this service. When we do a search on Google, whether it is on a desk top computer or a mobile phone, Google produces 3 different results on the first page Google for the product or service your looking for. The first thing we need to understand is this, when you do a search on Google, the search results are based on where we are when we do the search.  If I Google “Plumber” and I am in East Lansing these are my results : Area 1 is Google Adwords. Will always be at the top of all search results.  These are ads that businesses pay for each time the add is clicked. This is the only service that can guarantee your business will show up on the front page of Google.  I like to call it Pay to Play.  It does have it;s advantages and disadvantages. Area 2 is Local Search results.  If there are any local business near where I am searching from, then Google will show me these businesses here.  Google found that over 85% of all search were local.  Over the years this has been called Google Places, Google Local and is now called Google My Business.  A local business is not guaranteed to show in this area.  I highly recommend that all local businesses claim or add their business.  There are a lot of benefits to this that I will get into in a future post.   Area 3 is what I call website results or SEO.  This is the area that Google will start listing websites that they feel is relevant to your search query. This is decided about a lot of different factors. Some of those factors are based on your websites structure and keywords, the content on your website and content publish else where online and what authoritative websites have a link going back to your website.  These are just a few things that going into getting your website on the First Page Of Google.   If your looking for this type of service to help your Business get more online exposure these are some questions that you should be asking of the company.  Where are you located?  (Do you want to work to with a company that isn’t local? I always recommend working with a local company whenever possible. If you get a referral to a company from someone you trust then go with the referral.) Ask if the company is working with any other businesses in your area that provide the same product or service you do? (Remember, we are talking the First Page of Google. Do you want to work with a company that is also working with your competitors.  That is way my company has a exclusive clause with our clients when it comes to search. Two businesses can’t occupy the top post) Ask the caller if they will be doing the work? (This is where it gets tricking. A lot of companies farm out this type of work overseas and hire a bunch of people in a call center. If they aren’t doing the actually work, would you want to spend your marketing dollars with this company. Always choose a local company that does the work in house, if your able too) How long have you been in business? What other businesses are you working with in my area? (I know you already asked question #2, but you want to be able to call these businesses they are working with.) What are the terms if I do work with your company and what are your cancellation policy? (You want to how long your committed for contractually. You also want to know about cancelling service.  There are some companies that require a 30 or 60 day notice to cancel.  You will want to know all this upfront.) A lot of these companies will offer call tracking.  I always recommend against call tracking.  These can be fudged.  I always recommend putting a system in place at your business to track calls and walks in. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.  I understand you may have questions and I am always here to answer them for you. Our next post will get into more detail about Area 2, Local Search Results and what you can do to stand out.

The Program: Asset Recovery

by admin @ Delta Green

The expanded core rulebook for Delta Green: The Role-Playing Game is nearly complete. Developers Dennis Detwiller and Shane Ivey are finalizing the text now. Here’s a teaser from “The Schism,” a chapter by Adam Scott Glancy and Shane Ivey about the shape of modern-day Delta Green. (This text is slightly different from an earlier preview posted as a Kickstarter update.) Asset Recovery The Program stores unnatural specimens at secure locations, scattered throughout the federal hinterlands of the United States and in the labs of their private-sector partners. These deniable facilities are self-contained, and for the most part, personnel have little or no idea why their base is even there. Only a small team at the center of such a facility is briefed well enough to understand what they contain. These facilities remain unknown to Agents until that knowledge is necessary for their operations. After an operation, Agents are expected to securely package any artifacts, sources of information, or other remnants—using whatever biohazard protection they can find for biological remains—and hand them over to their case officer. Agents are rarely invited to participate directly in the analysis of the things they recover. If the remnants are too substantial for the usual handoff, the case officer can ask for a pickup by the Office of Security in a helicopter or cargo plane. This is not usual. Such a pickup increases the visibility of the operation, both literally and bureaucratically. It means exposing additional personnel to whatever unnatural threat may linger. These pickups have resulted in disasters that became enormous follow-on operations. A case officer who requests them without need soon finds the requests ignored. When a pickup is approved, the Office of Security deploys an expert, detached from the Office of Research, with Air Force pilots and a few guards to recover and transportat the assets. The recovery team meets agents at an airfield where the presence of a helicopter or plane will draw little attention. It’s up to the Agents to get to the airfield. Collected evidence is sealed inside secure containers so that the flight team never know what they are transporting. Pickup crews and Agents are under strict instructions to share no information with each other beyond what’s necessary. Operation CORAL NOMAD The Office of Security’s recovery operations operate under the name Operation CORAL NOMAD. The name changes occasionally. Its units are housed in aerospace recovery and combat rescue commands at Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Each CORAL NOMAD unit includes about 120 personnel: pilots, eight or nine combat rescue officers, a few dozen Pararescue members (“PJs”), and command and support personnel. That unit is part of a larger group with which it performs non-Program missions. But everyone knows that unit has occasional secret operations that no one else in the group is cleared for. The true nature of CORAL NOMAD’s work is strictly need-to-know. Very few of its members know anything about the Program. Only a squadron’s researchers, commanding officers, flight surgeon, and combat rescue officers have even limited awareness of the unnatural. Other personnel are debriefed only when they witness the unnatural first-hand. In any given squadron, that has happend to only a handful of pilots and PJs. CORAL NOMAD’s combat rescue officers and PJs are equipped with M4 carbines, M9 pistols, body armor, night-vision goggles, medical bags, and rescue tools. They may deploy by parachute if the site’s inaccessible for landing, or with SCUBA gear for an underwater recover. They train as extensively as any special-operations unit, and their washout rate is extremely high. They are supremely competent. If they are called out and the Agents’ operation takes place within 300 km of a CORAL NOMAD base (or farther, if refueling is available), the Program typically deploys one or two Pave Hawk MH-60G helicopters with external fuel tanks, a flight range of about 800 km, and cruising speed of about 300 kph. Each Pave Hawk carries two pilots, a flight engineer, a combat rescue officer commanding three PJs, and a researcher. The commanding officer files a flight plan as a classified Air Force training exercise. Farther afield, it deploys an HC-130J Combat King II transport plane with a flight range of more than 8,000 km and cruising speed of 540 kph. Each Combat King II carries two pilots, a combat system officer, two loadmasters, a combat rescue officer commanding five PJs, and a researcher. If those options are too high-profile, it deploys a civilian charter jet owned by one of the Program’s private-sector allies, usually a subsidiary of March Technologies, Inc., with a similar crew complement to the Combat King II. CORAL NOMAD does not provide transportation to Agents into or out of the field unless the Director of Security tells the crew explicitly to take an Agent aboard. It happens only if there are no other options. If one of the Agents is severely injured and too far from a hospital to survive, for example, the Program may instruct the crew to take aboard for delivery to a secure wing of a military hospital for treatment. That is very rare. Operation CORAL NOMAD has deeper roots than most of its personnel realize, with a continuous operational history of nearly 70 years across dozens of different Air Force units. It went by the name Project BLUE FLY for almost fifty years in the days of MAJESTIC, under the cover of aerospace rescue and recovery. Some senior personnel have personal experience fighting unnatural threats. Its legendary commander in the 1990s, Col. Robert Coffey, died saving his men from a catastrophic incursion. Years ago, its officers helped dismantle MAJESTIC’s corrupt leadership. Its commander at that time, USAF Lt. General Eustis Bell, became one of the directors of the Program. Most of CORAL NOMAD’s senior officers remember both Coffey and Bell with honor. They tend to dislike taking instructions from Security Director Oakes, who clearly is a former Army grunt, but they respect the Director enough to keep that opinion in-house. […]

Can't believe the warm weather we have had this last week. 77* and new records all around us. The deer are back and enjoying our newly planted grass.....we fixed a make-shift fence that they jumped right over.....so much for that. All my flowers are peeking through, so I sprayed them with my "deer off. It's one egg, one cup of milk, mixed up well and put in a quart of water in a spray bottle....it smells awful at first, but that goes away and it doesn't harm the plants. Worked last year, so I'm trying it again.
Ted has the swallow boxes around the lake cleaned out and ready. He stood on the ice just two days ago, not now....there is only a little ice way down at the south end of the lake. Swans, ducks, muskrats are busy on the lake. An otter sat on the ice the other AM eating a fish.
Ted is busy raking and picking up the zillions of pine cones at the Resort. It's a little early to start getting the cabins ready, but if the weather stays like this we will start getting ready for our 49th season.....WOW!!!!!

Less-Lethal Options in Delta Green

by admin @ Delta Green

“Law enforcement officers and correctional officers of the Department of Justice may use deadly force only when necessary, that is, when the officer has a reasonable belief that the subject of such force poses an imminent danger of death or serious physical injury to the ofiiccr or to another person.” —U.S. Attorney General October 17, 1995 Memorandum on Resolution 14 Most federal agents in Delta Green are in the FBI. A minority are in the DEA and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS). A smaller number still are scattered throughout other  agencies, mostly in the Department of Justice (DOJ). All those agencies are governed by the DOJ’s deadly-force policy, and most have policies that limit use of any force to the minimum necessary to control a suspect. All have policies governing agents’ use of “less-lethal” weapons when controlling a suspect requires more than bare hands but less than deadly force. Allowed Weapons What less-lethal weapons is your Agent legally allowed to use? A 2009 DOJ review offers a handy overview. ATF: The ATF allows agents to use batons, bean-bag shotgun rounds, baton launchers, pepper spray, and Tasers. The ATF increasingly deployed less-lethal weapons in the late 2000s—particularly Tasers—as its focused changed to street-level firearm trafficking. The ATF’s Special Response Teams may use tear gas. DEA: The DEA allows agents to carry batons and pepper spray, but few agents do. The DOJ’s 2009 review found no reported uses of batons or pepper spray from 2002 to 2008. The DEA usually makes arrests in drug busts against armed suspects, so its agents prefer a show of overwhelming force, in full body armor and with firearms drawn. FBI: The FBI allows agents to carry batons and pepper spray, but few agents do. FBI agents use pepper spray rarely. Like many ordinary police officers, they find it more useful to ward off guard dogs than to subdue suspects. The FBI’s SWAT teams may use tear gas. USMS: Responsible for capturing and transporting fugitives, Deputy U.S. Marshals have wider less-lethal options than any DOJ agency except the Bureau of Prisons. They may use  batons, bean-bag shotgun rounds, pepper spray, stun belts, and Tasers. In 2009 they were allowed to use the Ultron II contact stun device, but it had already been phased out in favor of ranged Tasers. TASK FORCES: ATF and DEA task forces require members from local, county, and state police forces to abide by ATF or DEA less-lethal weapon policies. The FBI and USMS allow task-force members to follow their local departments’ policies. Optional Rule: Baton Training Federal agents and police officers have special training (see Delta Green: Agent’s Handbook, page 30) with batons. They are trained trained not to break bones but to subdue, mostly with blows to the outer thighs where nerve clusters can cause enough pain to force compliance but muscle mass reduces the risk of serious harm. Most carry telescoping steel batons, if they carry them at all. Special training with a baton allows an Agent to use it with the Unarmed Combat skill instead of Melee Weapons. Used with Unarmed Combat, a baton adds +1 to unarmed damage instead of its usual 1D6 damage. If the Handler allows the optional rule for making a called shot to stun the target (see Delta Green: Agent’s Handbook, page 52), special training with a baton gives a +10% bonus to the called shot. New Weapons Pepper spray, stun guns, Tasers (CED pistols), and tear gas are described in the Agent’s Handbook. Aerial-dispersal shotgun rounds, rubber pellets, and StingBalls and are not allowed by the agencies that produce most Agents of Delta Green. But they are allowed to the Bureau of Prisons, so incautious Agents may run into them soon enough. AERIAL-DISPERSAL SHOTGUN ROUND: A compressed-air shotgun shell. When fired it makes as much noise as a shotgun firing, allowing a “warning shot” without causing harm. BATON ROUND: A plastic-tipped, aluminum bullet about 37 mm across, fired from a specially-adapted shotgun (or grenade launcher). Double the target’s armor against a baton round. Skill: Firearms. Base Range: 20 m. Damage: 1D6. Expense: Incidental. BEAN-BAG SHOTGUN ROUND: A small, heavy cloth square filled with an ounce of birdshot and loaded into a shotgun shell. Must be fired from a specially adapted shotgun. Double the target’s armor against a bean-bag round. Skill: Firearms. Base Range: 3 m. Damage: 1D4. Expense: Incidental. RUBBER PELLETS: A shotgun shell loaded with buckshot-size rubber pellets. Each shot affects two targets who are within 1 m of each other. Double the target’s armor against rubber pellets. Skill: Firearms. Base Range: 5 m. Damage: 1D4. Expense: Incidental. STINGBALL: A small, rubber ball about the size of a hand grenade, with an explosive charge. When it bursts, it expels over 100 soft rubber balls that inflict damage on all targets within 10 m. Double the target’s armor against a StingBall. Some StingBalls are also loaded with tear gas. A StingBall may be thrown with special training in Athletics, or fired from a specially-adapted grenade launcher with Heavy Weapons.  Skill: Athletics or Heavy Weapons. Base Range: 20 m thrown or 150 m launched. Damage: 1D4. Expense: Incidental. STUN BELT: A velcro belt that delivers an incapacitating shock by remote control at up to 100 m. In combat it is activated with a DEX test, but any result succeeds except a fumble. Some versions can be set to activate automatically if the target moves. Skill: DEX test; any result but a fumble triggers the stun belt. Range: 100 m. Uses: 300. Victim’s Penalty: −20% for 2D20 minutes. Expense: Unusual.

It's been FREEZING here!

by noreply@blogger.com (colbran) @ Burson's Delta Resort

Winter, snow, COLD temps have been the trend here in the UP of MI.....the resort is covered with snow, even though Ted blows the driveway out, at least to the workshop. It is a winter wonderland and so silent outside. We are doing the usual winter jobs....he's working now on his Model A. Good thing we have a heated garage here at the house. I'm cleaning, sorting, purging, etc. Have read some good books I received for Christmas, and that's about it. We'll seriously start thinking about summer about April. I'll be getting a "Spring letter" out. Hope all are having a warm winter!

An Unconventional Hiring Team

by Redacción @ GL SEO Barcelona

Summer is in full swing

by noreply@blogger.com (deltaresort) @ Burson's Delta Resort

We are into July now and seem to be keeping busy at the resort. It hasn't developed as I wanted, because on June 30, I was coming home from the reoort on my bike after sitting around the camp fire with my sister and family that had just arrived. I started up the hill toward our driveway and knew I couldn't peddle all the way, so stopped, got off and my left foot was kinda down in the ditch where the water runs (when it rains). As I went to take my right leg over my bike to push it on up the hill, I lost my balance, and THUD on the ground I went. A trip to the ER, later x-ray and CAT scan revealed I cracked the ball of my left hip....so to Marquette for a partial replacment of hip on Sunday, home on Tuesday, and I'm recouping at home, Weren't we smart when we built our log home to put a bedroom downstairs on first floor, a bath/sit down shower and higher toilets in the bathrooms. I'm doing well, have the staples out, graduated to a cane from the walker, and continue my exercises under the supervision of my personal trainer, Ted. He is doing double duty as nurse and housekeeper at the resort. That wilh all his work....shingling a roof on #3 right now. We have had many offers of help and will use them if needed later... I'm thankful that it wasn't worse. We will make it. God is good.

February Update

by noreply@blogger.com (deltaresort) @ Burson's Delta Resort

Snowing softly this AM...it drifts down and covers the pine trees around our log home. Ted has been out to feed the muskrats at the lake...he must chop a hole in the ice for the corn. We took a "short cut" coming home from getting the mail yesterday...got on the ice at the pier and walked over to the house.....there is about 10" of ice, not really enough for me...Ha. It's a funny feeling when you get out in the middle of the lake.
15 turkeys are coming each day, and we just had 3 pileated woodpeckers flying about. One big one landed on a birch tree outside the garage. We are hearing more birds.....wonder if Spring will be early?????
Hope all of you had a sweet Valentine's Day.
Ted is excited about getting a '28 Model A sedan, all restored...it is in the heated garage here and he's out there most of the day.....sighing or ? whatever you do. It is a beauty. I will TRY to get some pictures on the site.
Have a good day.

Paloma bravía: urbanizarse para sobrevivir

by Salvador Solé @ GL SEO Barcelona

We've had a busy May/June so far getting the cabins ready to begin our 49th season at Burson's Delta Resort. Over the Memorial Day weekend, we had help from Dana and Colby from Iowa and Jill/Scott, Wyatt, Hannah, Dalaney, and Scotty from Crystal Falls...we put in boats, picked up zillions of pine cones, and cleaned cabins. Wow, did we appreciate ALL their help. Ted is working hard on the big cabin. We had the flrst floor floors sanded and sealed, then he rewired it all, and now he's building walls and trying to preserve the 1910 writings on the chimney by George Foote so all can see it. He did take some time out this AM, so it's bluegills for supper...Yummy.

Cálao rinoceronte: en lo profundo del bosque

by Salvador Solé @ GL SEO Barcelona

Easter Greetings

The sun is shining, but the wind still has a "chiily" feeling. We have heard from some customers wondering if we are okay, and yes, we are....just a little slow in getting our "Spring letter" out....Look for it in the next couple weeks. We were gone about 10 days in March and I ususally write it when we are on our trip south....(to Iowa) visiting our daughter and family. I have it already to go, just need to proofread it and then it will be on it's way.
Hope you are having Spring where you are. We are seeing the sandhill cranes, so all the other birds will be coming soon. Ted has seen the otters on the lake, and even a small mink at the shore feasting on some small bluegills. He continues to feed the deer.

Y me sorprendió bastante. Buen domingo a tod@s

by Salvador Solé @ GL SEO Barcelona

2011 Spring Greetings

by noreply@blogger.com (colbran) @ Burson's Delta Resort

I hesitate to say Spring, as it snowed right before Easter!  Hopefully, by the time this reaches you, we will have warm temps and can hope that Spring is really here to stay.   The animals have returned….the trumpeter swans even came gliding in on the ice about a month ago.   Ted feeds the muskrats all winter, so the hole he chopped served  them as well.   About two weeks ago the deer from last year showed up, so Ted is busy with his feeding again.  We have as high as seven does and fawns here at one time.   We see the robins, tree swallows, finches, and sometimes woodpeckers.   We got a great picture of a pileated woodpecker on a birch tree right outside our garage.  Now, if we get nice weather, the gravel roads will dry out and we won’t feel like we are navigating through a mine field every time we drive to town.

We had a fairly mild winter for the UP.   We were way behind in snowfall and cold temps.   Our unofficial record of snow (we measure in the driveway) was less than 100”.   I think Ted blew out the driveway maybe 4 times.

Christmas brought both the girls and families here.    Dana, Jim, Brandon, and Colby came from Iowa, and Jill, Scott, Wyatt, Hannah, Dalaney, and Scotty from Crystal Falls.    We all stayed here in the log house and were quite comfy.   We had snow so they kids could tube and play outside.   The guys also got the vintage snowmobile we acquired from a man at our church running, so that was a big hit.   We took it to Thunder Bowl so the kids could be driven back up the hill after sledding down.     Brandon celebrated his 16th birthday and Dana and Jim their 20th wedding anniversary.   It was great having everyone here.

Our two big trips before winter were to Iowa for my 50th high school reunion in September.   That was a fun weekend seeing classmates and catching up on all their news.   Then in October, we picked up Ted’s sister in IN and drove south to Indianapolis to see her son, then on to Chauvin, LA to see her daughter, granddaughter, and new great granddaughter.   We stayed a week and saw the sights…..a plantation,  the coast where BP had a clean up operation from the oil spill, and a day in New Orleans, right down in the center of the Mardi Gras area.   The weather was super warm and we really enjoyed the area, good food, and seeing the sights.

Ted is working in Maple cabin right now.   He is going to do some rewiring and put in some new walls and floors.  I’m the “clean up crew”.   As soon as it gets warmer, I will start to get the cabins ready for our 48th season of business.   Wow, that doesn’t seem possible!  We have met many wonderful people over those seasons.   Some are no longer with us, but we sure have some great memories.   We have some third generations who still visit.   We will be ready for the Wednesday night potluck and the fellowship  we share around the campfire.   Peace and quietness is awaiting you.   We hope you have made your reservations, but if it’s not in your plans this summer, we wish you good health and happiness.

by Marta G. @ Comentarios para SEO/BirdLife

Saludos!!
