by Rob Alway @ MasonCountyPress.com

LHS, MCC football players honoring Henry MacDougall. SCOTTVILLE — Tonight is the Mason County Central homecoming football game at Spartan Community Field. Many of the football players grew up playing sports with Ludington High School junior Henry MacDougall, 16, who died last week as the result of a vehicle crash north of Scottville(story here). Both of Henry’s parents, Gordon MacDougall and Jennifer (Ryan) Hansberger, are alumni of MCC, and Henry spent much of his youth in Scottville area little league programs. The MCC varsity football team members have memorialized Henry by placing an orange and black (Ludington school colors) decal with his initials on the back of their helmets. The team members will debut the decals during their homecoming game tonight against Shelby. Ludington Area Schools Athletic Director Randy Fountain said the LHS varsity football team has done the same and both teams, when they compete against each other next Friday, Oct. 20, will do something together to honor Henry. The MCC decals were created and donated by Safety Decals. The MCC homecoming parade begins at 6 p.m. just south of downtown and will go north up Main Street to Beryl Street and then west to Spartan Community Field. This story […]

Lake Michigan Beach House restoration underway

Lake Michigan Beach House restoration underway

MasonCountyPress.com

Pines Campground gets new electrical service HAMLIN TWP. — There is a lot of commotion on the west side of the Ludington State Park this fall. Several park facilities are getting updating and restored. The biggest project is the renovation of the Lake Michigan Beach House. The building was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps and completed in 1935. On Thursday, park manager Jim Gallie gave a tour of that project and some of the other ones at the park. Crews just finished gutting out both floors of the building. For several years the second floor has been a concession area where food, refreshments and souvenirs were sold. That area will now become a visitor center, which will include interpretive displays. The main interpretive focus would be on geology and ecology of Lake Michigan as viewed from the beach house. Other exhibits would depict the park’s natural and cultural history. Previously, the visitor center was located near the Skyline Trail in the center. A few years ago the roof collapsed on that building. “We looked at where most of the visitors hang out and it’s here at the beach,” Gallie said. “So, it made sense to move the visitor center […]
