How the Biggest Fashion eCommerce Brands Use Reviews

by Aimee Millwood @ Yotpo - Feed

Fashion eCommerce stores face unique challenges. In a landscape of deep discounts, fast fashion, and tons of competition, even the most successful brands need to work hard to stay ahead. While the top stores are already a step ahead because they have great brand recognition and loyal customers that love them, one major mistake is costing them: They're not taking full advantage of customer reviews. Why is this so important? Uncertainty is the biggest killer of online sales. Reviews and other forms of user-generated content, like customer photos and ratings, create the social proof that instills confidence and trust in shoppers. In fact, data on the fashion eCommerce industry found that 27.5% of shoppers won't purchase from a new brand because of lack of trust, while 41.5% of shoppers cite missing reviews as their reason not to buy. When thousands of brands are competing for the same sales, smart branding and strategic fashion eCommerce marketing means taking every o ...

What is Off-Site SEO?

by MattCallen @ SeeYouSEO Search Engine Optimization

Tying it all Together

It is important, when considering how to optimize your website for search engine ranking, to recognize the difference between on-site SEO, vs. off-site SEO.  In the last blog we talked about what we do on the website itself to improve your search engine rankings, or On-Site SEO. As a Northern Virginia SEO company, SeeYouSEO works with local businesses to improve their Google, Bing, and Yahoo rankings and help them get more clients and customers. This week we are focusing on Off-Site or Off-Page SEO.

There is a common misconception that SEO is only about optimizing your website. In reality the majority of SEO work relies on Off-Site SEO.  Once your website is fully optimized with the proper keywords, alt tags, and headings, you can direct your attention to building your presence online on a wider plane. Using other ... Read More »

Newport Beach Triathlon Cancels Swim Stage After Failure To Secure Venue

by derek murphy @

In late July, questions came to light regarding the Newport Beach Triathlon, scheduled for October 1st. There was a series of articles posted on CaliforniaTriathlon.org as well as the article posted here: RACE ORGANIZER ACCUSED OF SELLING NEWPORT BEACH TRIATHLON ENTRIES UNDER “FALSE PRETENSES” The key point in these stories was that the executive director of the Newport Dunes Resort and Marina where a portion of the event was to take place, stated that the event was “Neither contracted nor permitted to occur.” Pacific Sports did respond to the initial CaliforniaTriathlon.org article: you should question the source of your information. We apply for permits, as we have for 39 years, and they are approved in typically around 10 days prior to […]

How Lingerie & Swim Brands Are Disrupting Social Marketing

by Joanna Alter @ Yotpo - Feed

A Yotpo study of 1.3 million customer reviews revealed that size and fit are two of the biggest pain points for online fashion shoppers. In the lingerie and swimwear industries, these issues are amplified because size and fit vary between companies and depend so much on personal preference and each individual’s unique body shape. In brick-and-mortar stores, a trusted second opinion from a friend or a sales associate boosts customer confidence and makes shoppers more likely to buy. Blurring the Lines Between eCommerce and Social Networks Social networks are expanding into every aspect of our daily lives, including our shopping habits. Unpopular Opinion: SEO Isn’t Going to Fix Your Sales Problem

by Eric Lynch @ build/create studios

There are agencies all over the Internet either promising rankings results (the ones you obviously should run from) or at least can show that they’ve done the work to increase a company’s search term rankings. The latter is perfectly fine, and we do it. Reputable SEO agencies should show their work. But there’s a slight... read more

Over 5000 Disqualified From The Mexico City Marathon

by derek murphy @

An unprecedented number of runners have been disqualified from The Mexico City Marathon. Did they all cheat, or were some victims of timing errors? After I posted an article regarding the accusations that 1000s cheated at the Mexico City Marathon, the race released the official results. According to the race website 5,806 runners were disqualified. I did not pull the preliminary results immediately following the race, so my #s differ slightly from the #s the race published. From the Mexico City Marathon website: Total athletes who crossed the finish line 28,206 Total athletes who completed the full course (Finishers) 23,887 Disqualified 5,806 The # disqualified does not equal the difference between total athletes that crossed the finish line and those […]

Here's a look at some of the major eCommerce news impacting the industry today. Major eCommerce trends: Growth isn't slowing down Online commerce sales are growing at a crazy pace globally and in the United States, specifically. In 2016, eCommerce sales in the US totalled $400 billion. It's a market that continues growing at an unprecedented year-over-year rate of 15%. There are a lot of articles now saying that we’re at the tipping point because the majority of consumers are willing to buy the majority of the things online without going to a physical store. As you can see, even the pace of growth has been growing. Take a look at what’s happening to big-name US retail stores: Sears is running out of cash flow, Macy's shut down 68 stores, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. These old-school companies s ...

Diamond Vision Gets Results Through Combined PPC and SEO | Executive Digital

Executive Digital

There are two ways to increase traffic online: organically and paid. By combining both strategies, we optimize our clients' web presences and overall conversions. Diamond Vision started their contract with us in July 2015, and since our team began implementing paid and organic search efforts, we have seen a 35% increase in organic traffic. With more people visiting the site, we've seen a 22% increase in overall conversions. Let's dive deeper into how the combination of SEO and PPC led to these results. What is SEO? Search engine optimization (SEO) reflects the ability to generate traffic from the web's wide offering of a free, organic mass consumer audience. All major search engines (Google, Yahoo!, Bing, etc.) rank websites accordingly to intricate algorithms; these are the sites that consumers see listed per page upon searching a word or string of search terms. By ranking well in search engines, companies essentially get free (okay, not always entirely free, but loosely) brand

Outrank Third-Party Review Sites on Google

by Michelle Bitran @ Yotpo - Feed

The Opportunity: Reading reviews has become a necessity for anyone thinking about making an online purchase. In fact, a survey of more than 600 online shoppers found that 77.3% of people say reviews impact their decision to make a purchase. When looking for information about your brand and your service, shoppers will usually type your company’s name and “reviews” in a Google search. Unfortunately, your business is unlikely to be the first thing they see when inputting those search keywords. Before ever reaching your site and seeing your products for themselves, they’re likely to see your store reviewed on third-party sites, like Yelp or Angie’s List, where your business might be listed alongside competitors. Many shoppers won’t even make it all the way to your site. Despite having already typed your brand name into Google, they may never browse through the products in your store. Things started to become clearer shortly after I posted the follow up: Over 5000 Disqualified From The Mexico City Marathon. I mentioned in that article an anomaly related to […]

White Hat SEO Used Exclusively by this Virginia SEO Company

by MattCallen @ SeeYouSEO Search Engine Optimization

White Hat vs. Black Hat SEO

At SeeYouSEO, a Northern Virginia internet marketing company, we only use White Hat SEO. What does that mean to our clients and prospects? How do you know if your SEO company is using the right kind of SEO strategy for your business? In this blog we will talk about the difference between these two types of SEO strategies and why we are so adamant about our choice.  In an area where business practices are taken seriously, we stand by our decision to help business owners boost their online presence in an ethical manner.  We are talking about Black Hat SEO first, since those techniques set a negative standard and help us define how to organize our work in ethical contrast.

Black Hat SEO refers to strategies that SEO companies employ to aggressively target search engines as ... Read More »

Thousands Accused of Cheating at The Mexico City Marathon

by derek murphy @

Shortly after The 2017 Mexico City Marathon, I received requests to review the results. A Facebook page popped up outing many alleged cheaters. I read comments that there were 1000’s of cheaters – runners that cut the course. I was skeptical at first.  However, when I looked at the results, and the paces, the data seems to support that the unprecedented amount of missed mats were widely attributable to runners cutting the course. There were 8 intermediate timing mats on the course, roughly every 5k. The Results Total Runners                 27,873 100% Missed 0 mats                 17,827 64.0% Missed 1 mat                   3,502 12.6% Missd 2 mats                   1,435 5.1% Missed 3 mats                   1,381 5.0% Missed 4 mats                   1,006 […]

Disneyland 5k Bib Reported Stolen – Photos Show a Familiar Suspect

by derek murphy @

In Serial Bib Thief Identified at Disney, I wrote about a runner that reported their bib was picked up by someone else for The Tinkerbell 10k and Half Marathons in May. This post went viral within the various Disney groups on Facebook and led to the runner being positively identified as “Patty”. As detailed in my article there were many other instances of her appearing in race photos wearing bibs that were not registered to her. Further investigation also indicates that she likely cut in a previous half marathon and may have used another runner’s results for her proof of time to move up to earlier corrals.   Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend Another participant had a very similar story regarding […]

Reverse Engineering the Yelp Review Filter Algorithm

by Kevin Callen @ SeeYouSEO Search Engine Optimization

Yelp Review Filter Has Significantly Damaged (and Helped?) Local Businesses

We have heard from a very large number of disgruntled local companies that have been negatively impacted by the Yelp review filter.  The typical story is:

We got a bad review on Yelp.
We asked our clients to post (hopefully, positive) reviews on Yelp.
The good reviews get filtered and are not displayed.
Web searchers only see the bad review(s).
    We are losing business.

In an open forum like Yelp or Google+, there is no validation of legitimacy.   Would the bad reviews pass arbitration?  How many reviews are actually legitimate?  Who knows?  It really does not matter.  Open review forums are here to stay.  These forums do hurt legitimate businesses when targeted by false, fake or exaggerated reviews with a negative agenda.  At the same token, the Yelp review filter has ...
